Viewfinder and the Canon EOS 5D Mark II?
Using the EOS 5D Mark II, can you take pictures with the images previewed on the LCD screen rather than looking through the viewfinder?
You can, but keep in mind that live view is intended for very controlled use, such as macro work with a tripod, landscapes and things like that. The LCD screens are not easy to see in bright sunlight and will not be ideal for everyday use like a point and shoot. Theres a reason they still include the viewfinder, and that is because it is still the best way to use a camera. Dont buy a 5D mark II and expect to just use live view all the time, you will be disappointed. Before you go and spend $2700 on this camera plus another $2000-$5000 for lenses (its a full frame camera requiring L lenses and some good primes lenses) consider whether or not you really need it. It is a very professional camera, and will most likely frustrate you if you are unfamiliar with DSLRs. Canon just announced the Rebel T1i which also has live view, and shoots video, ISO speed up to 12800, and priced at $900. Perhaps this camera would also interest you.
edit: in response to the post below mine: yes you could put a $90 50mm f/1.8 lens on the 5D mark II (have that lens, its great) but that would be the cheap exception. Most zoom lenses that are not L lenses dont really have the necessary quality to preform well on a full frame camera. There are plenty of prime lenses between $100-700 that would work great, but if your looking at any mid range zooms, you have limited EF mount options that are not L lenses. You would easily be looking at a 24-70 f/2.8($1100) maybe an ultra wide 16-35 f/2.8 (1200) and any other telephotos would also start at $1100 and get more expensive from there. There are of course prime lenses like the 50mm f/1.8 and f/1.4 which are great lenses for $100-$400. Working with primes is great, but most people will want to have at least one zoom lens in their arsenal. Just dont expect to buy this camera without also purchasing at least one $1000+ lens.
